Cheers to our clients’ mental health!
This month, we will be joined by Attorney Rebecca Amster Cantor. In her presentation, titled “My Client Must be Crazy! Identifying and Meeting the Needs of the Most Challenging Clients,” Rebecca will discuss the mental health of clients, how to know when your client needs mental health support, and how to handle those clients who make lawyers feel like they are their clients’ psychologists instead of their attorneys. The presentation also helps attorneys take stock and engage in self-care. At the end of Rebecca’s talk, we should: (i) have a better understanding of the prevalence of mental health disorders in Florida (and Collier County) and their potential impact on our cases; (ii) be able to identify our ethical obligations to assist our clients; and (iii) have a working knowledge of adverse childhood experiences (“ACE”) and trauma-informed legal practice for those clients with high ACE scores.
