Foreign Service Officer William Pope Discusses the War on Terrorism
Come join the members, sponsors and friends of CCWBA at Kensington Country Club as we celebrate our judiciary and hear from William Pope, a retired Foreign Service Officer with the State Department, for an insider’s view of the war on terror. We look forward to time with our local judges and to showing our appreciation for our local judiciary in both Collier and Lee counties, in state and federal court, and hope you can join us!
William Pope, retired Foreign Service Officer with the US Department of State and Naples resident, will discuss the history of terrorism and counterterrorism efforts and where we stand with the war on terrorism today, and whether we have or ever can win this war. Mr. Pope served in numerous capacities during his 44 years with the U.S. Department of State, and during his 33-year Foreign Service career, Mr. Pope had overseas tours in numerous countries and held several senior positions in Washington, including as the State Department’s Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism in the years prior to his retirement. Following his 2005 retirement, he worked on U.S. cyber policy in the Office of the Coordinator for Cyber Issues and was the Senior Advisor for Europe at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations for the 63rd-71st sessions of the UN General Assembly (2008-16).
